New Phishing Scam Snares More than 3 Million Social Network Users

The Websense® ThreatSeeker® Network has detected a new wave of phishing campaign spreading on Chinese social network "Sina Weibo.” Sina Weibo is a Chinese microblogging website, akin to a hybrid of Twitter and Facebook.

The attack spreads a phishing message that gains access to users credentials and then spreads the phish through the users account. A search for the message shows that more than 3 million instances of the post have occurred – potentially accounting for up to one percent of Sina Weibo’s more than 300 million registered users (as of February 2012).
